Another possible cause of this problem is network issues. In my case it was because I was reconfiguring TCPIP ports on my servers. I reset the values of the <portname>_TcpIpAddress notes.ini variables from 0,0.0.0.0:n to 0,w.x.y.z:n. On two servers I typo'd the IP addresses. I intended not to restart the affected ports until after business hours, but for some reason I can't fathom, one of the typo'd servers seemed to detect my changes immediately and started malfunctioning as a result. Router couldn't transfer mail to other servers (at least not fast enough to keep up with demand) and mail piled up in the mail.boxes. RnRMgr couldn't do resource searches to Reservations databases on other servers. And POP3 stopped functioning. On the other typo'd server everything continued to function normally. I solved the problem by correcting the notes.ini errors then restarting the ports and the malfunctioning services.
I found this thread because the first indicator I had that something was wrong was when a user complained that Room searches had stopped functioning for her.
